Major festival schedules, venues and ticketing change from year to year. Confirm exact dates with the official organizer before booking travel around a specific event. Use the festival schedule to shape the rest of your trip, especially hotel location, transit plans and how much time you leave between neighbourhoods.
Montreal Events & Festivals
Festivals run through much of Montreal’s year. Dates move every year, so instead of a calendar that goes stale, this page shows you how to plan around them.

The big festivals by season
Summer is the busiest stretch: the Montréal International Jazz Festival, Just for Laughs, Osheaga and Les Francofolies all happen in the warm months, many of them in and around the Quartier des Spectacles. Winter has Igloofest, Montréal en Lumière and the Fête des neiges at Parc Jean-Drapeau.
Dates move every year, so check each festival’s official site before you book, then look for a hotel early. Rooms near the Quartier des Spectacles and Downtown fill first during big festival weeks. See the festivals guide for how to plan around them, and Montreal by month for what else is on.
Many festival shows are free and outdoors, so you don’t always need a ticket. Just expect crowds and street closures around the festival sites.
