PLAN YOUR STAY

Where to Stay in Montreal

Your neighbourhood choice can change the entire trip. Here is the simplest way to choose the right base.

Start here: if you are unsure, choose Old Montreal for atmosphere, Downtown for maximum convenience, or the Plateau for neighbourhood character.

Best Montreal areas by trip type

First short visit: Old Montreal or Downtown.

Food and neighbourhood life: Plateau Mont-Royal, Mile End or Little Italy.

Modern apartments + canal: Griffintown.

Repeat visit / more local feel: Saint-Henri or Verdun.

Nightlife + central Metro: The Village.

Do not choose only by hotel price

Montreal is compact enough that many areas are accessible, but the street experience changes quickly. A slightly cheaper hotel can be a poor trade if it puts you far from the neighbourhoods you actually want to explore. Decide on your preferred city experience first, then compare accommodation inside that zone.
