Montreal Airport to Downtown: Your Main Options

Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is west of central Montreal. The right transfer depends on luggage, arrival time, group size and where you are staying.

747 airport bus

The STM’s 747 airport service is the main public-transit option linking the airport and central Montreal. Check current routing, stops, fares and schedules before arrival.

Route: the 747 runs between the airport and two Metro stations, Lionel-Groulx and Berri-UQAM, and serves several hotels along René-Lévesque Boulevard. At the airport, the stop is at door 28. Since January 26, 2026, the downtown terminus has been at stop 52905 on René-Lévesque at Berri, about 10 minutes' walk from the Montréal bus terminal.

Frequency: the STM says departures are generally every 10 to 20 minutes, all day, in both directions.

Fare: $11.25 per person, and it works as a 24-hour pass for the bus, Metro, exo trains and the REM in Zone A. Buy it from the vending machines or the STM counter near door 28 (cash, debit or credit card), or in the Chrono app. If you pay on the bus, it has to be exact change in coins; drivers don’t take bills.

What about the REM? The REM light metro doesn’t reach the airport yet. Its airport station is planned to open in 2027 (REM).

Taxi

A taxi is the simplest door-to-door choice with luggage, children, a late arrival or multiple travellers sharing the cost.

Rideshare and transfers

App-based rides and private transfers may use designated pickup areas. Follow current airport signage.

Should you rent a car?

Do not rent one simply because you land at an airport. A central Montreal trip often works better without a vehicle.

How to choose

Choose the 747 when you are comfortable handling your luggage on transit and your accommodation is convenient to its route. Choose a taxi or rideshare when door-to-door simplicity matters more, especially with several bags, young children or a late arrival.

Check your return trip separately

The best option from the airport is not always the best option back. Traffic, departure time, luggage and where you spend your final night can change the choice, so check the return plan the day before your flight.

Leave extra time in winter

Snow and road conditions can slow airport transfers. Build more margin into the trip to YUL during winter weather instead of relying on a normal travel time.
