AFTER DARK

Montreal Nightlife

Montreal’s nightlife is spread over several neighbourhoods, not packed into one district. Decide what kind of evening you want, then choose the area that fits it.

AFTER DARK

Keep the evening in one area

Pick one area with several backup options within walking distance. Montreal nights work better when you can change plans without taking a taxi across the city after every drink.

If you plan to stay out late, know how you will get back to your hotel after the Metro stops running and consider late-night food as part of the route.

Where to go, and how to get home

For bars and late food, start on Boulevard Saint-Laurent and the streets of the Plateau. The Village along Rue Sainte-Catherine Est is the centre of LGBTQ+ nightlife, Downtown has clubs and bigger venues, and Mile End is better for a quieter drink. See best areas for nightlife for the trade-offs, and the bars and nightlife guide for how a night out usually goes.

Check the last Metro before you head out. On the green line, for example, the last trains leave around 12:35 a.m. on weeknights and Sundays and a little after 1 a.m. on Saturdays (STM). After that, the STM runs night buses, or take a taxi.

The legal drinking age in Quebec is 18.
